Creeks, Rocks and Why I Do What I Do
Cranberry Glades Dolly Sods Fossil Hunting Monongahela National Forest Mountain State Vacations Red Creek Campground Trilobite Jewelry Wild Wonderful West Virginia
I began to wonder about all kinds of rocks after a particular camping trip on Red Creek in Tucker County, West Virginia. Today there is a public Red Creek Campground near Dolly Sods, but no so back then. There wasn’t even a road in from the backside of Blackwater at the time, but my dad grew up there so he knew all the old fire tower trails. As usual, I was playing in the creek, and I found a fossil! A perfect fossil. A perfect fossil of a moth! That was it. I was hooked.
The Mountains Called and Dad Took Me There
To understand my inspiration and why these mountains are so special to me, you have to understand my home. West Virginia. The Mountain State. Name kinda says it all, doesn’t it? But not everyone is familiar with West Virginia. Ask a lot people from the west coast and they’ll say “Oh, I’ve been to Arlington before, that’s close to D.C.”
Nope, not us. That’s Virginia. We used to be Virginia. But the war between the states separated us. Our mountains are rich in American history.

Of those, 91 are metals, and of those, only 4 are...

It officially began September 9th this year. If you're from West Virginia, you know what squirrel season is. If not, I'll spare you the details since some may not be as fond of it as I am. In recent years, squirrel season has taken on a whole new meaning for me. It's the beginning of my super BUSY season. I will spend the next 10 weeks scrambling just like that crazy-stupid-busy squirrel gathering nuts for the long winter ahead. You may be wondering what any of this has to do with jewelry. Well, there's preparation for...
